The arrival of spring invites us to enjoy the sea and its charms. Mallorca is characterized by hosting beautiful landscapes and coves that invite us to handle our boats and go on an expedition.
Here we tried to choose between the beautifulest places on the island to go by boat. Maybe you´re gonna think about others we didn’t mention. But at least, we think it is a good start.
We tried to include natural and secret places around the island (where you can enjoy the silence, the view and the forest around) and places with more services and infrastructure too.
There is no order in the next list we made. We hope you enjoy… whatever floats your boat.
Puerto de Soller
The Port of Sóller is a sheltered and equipped port for boats that combines fishing activity with recreational sailing and has an attractive commercial area. Nowadays, it has become a point of houses that serve as summer residences.
Spend the day at Playa d’en Repic (sandy beach), enjoy privileged views, explore the lighthouses that mark the entrance to the port (Old Lighthouse and Muleta or Cap Gros lighthouse), get on the tram that connects the port with the town of Sóller, or taking an excursion to the Torre Picada that has been a barrier to the arrival of pirates for centuries, are some of the options to take advantage of in this enchanted place.
Puerto de s’Estaca
This small port is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana between Valldemossa and Deiá.
It is made up of a set of stone houses built into the mountainside that shelter the small boats of the fishermen.
“…not many people know that S’Estaca was the property that the Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria gave as a present” to his Mallorcan girlfriend, Catalina Homar. Those that identify S´Estaca with a fishing village that, once again in the words of the Archduke, served as a base port for the best and bravest fishermen in Mallorca, is an increasingly small number.” (http://www.visitvalldemossa.com/en/heritage/sestaca/ ).
Here there are no services of any kind or restaurants. It is not an accessible port for tourism or for pleasure boats, even so, is a really good place to go.
Puerto de Valldemossa
The Port of Valldemossa is a fisherman’s paradise.
It was founded at the end of the 19th century and is located at the mouth of the Sa Marina stream. Since its foundation it has preserved the essence of a fishing port. Next to the port, a small nucleus of houses has formed, mostly second homes.
In the Port of Valldemossa you can enjoy unforgettable sunsets by the sea and a swim in its small stone cove. You can enjoy sports such as hiking, climbing and diving, while the harbor itself is the perfect place to enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of the sea.
Es Port de Sa Pedra de s’Ase (port of the stone of the donkey).
It is a small fishing port where time seems to have stopped.
Is located three kilometers from Banyalbufar, near to the “torre de ses ànimes”.
It receives the name of the large rock with a particular shape that resembles the ears of a donkey or ase (donkey in Spanish) that protects it from the sea.
You can enjoy a small sandy beach (Length = 10m, Width = 40m.) with quite a lot of waves.
Portocolom
Portocolom is located in the southeast of the island, specifically in the municipality of Felanitx. It is one of the largest natural harbors in Mallorca. It is said that the name of Portocolom was given in Roman times due to the large number of pigeons (colom in Mallorcan) that were raised in the area.Even so, Portocolom has managed to keep the pulse of tourism and preserve the charm of a port of fishermen.
For centuries, Portocolom has been an important commercial and fishing center in Mallorca, having a strong activity in the 19th century where, among other products, the island’s wine was exported to different parts of the world.
Portocolom is one of the established tourist destinations in Mallorca and offers a large number of hotels, bars and restaurants. It is also a very good place to learn part of the history and discover the nature of this side of the island.
